Celebrating the International Day of Light: A Week-long Journey of Light at Our School
Join us from 16 May as we embark on a week-long celebration of the International Day of Light! This special day, celebrated annually on May 16, marks the anniversary of the first successful operation of the laser in 1960 by physicist and engineer, Theodore Maiman. The International Day of Light aims to strengthen scientific cooperation and harness its potential to foster peace and sustainable development. To honor this occasion, our school will be hosting a series of exciting events and activities centered around the theme: The Journey of Light.
Leadership Pillar:
Our talented Student Media Team will be creating a captivating poster that showcases the importance of light in our lives and its connection to science, culture, and the arts. This visual representation of the theme will be displayed throughout the school during the week-long celebration.
Additionally, our Big Brother Programme will be organizing a series of mentoring and team-building activities focused on promoting awareness and understanding of light’s significance in our daily lives and its potential for positive change.
Academic Pillar:
During the week, various academic departments will explore the theme of light through diverse perspectives and disciplines:
- Science: Students will engage in hands-on experiments and interactive discussions to explore the properties of light, its applications in technology, and its role in scientific discoveries.
- Music: Our music department will demonstrate how light and sound are interconnected, with performances and workshops that explore the science of sound and the role of light in visual arts and stage performances.
- Drama: Students will have the opportunity to participate in drama workshops and performances that delve into the use of light in storytelling and its impact on emotions, mood, and atmosphere in theatre.
- Global Perspective: The global perspective curriculum will incorporate discussions and activities that highlight the importance of light in various cultures, its role in social and economic development, and its contribution to a sustainable future.
Join us as we celebrate the International Day of Light and embark on a week-long Journey of Light, filled with fun, learning, and inspiration. We look forward to sharing this illuminating experience with our students, faculty, and the entire school community.
